President Chuck Grodnik called the meeting to order.

New members were introduced: Judd McNally, Lake City Bank; Rebecca Kuiken, First Presbyterian Church, and Rick Munroe, Bethel College.

Susan Ginther asked who wanted to attend the Elkhart Civic Theatre production of "Odd Couple" at Bristol Opera House on Jan. 16th.

Mike Lobek reported on Salvation Army projects: Bar Hopping raised $1,441; Day of bell ringing raised $4,341 (13% increase over 2013 likely due to more people out because of the weather); Mike cheered Paul Warning’s work with [High School] Interact Club to do bell ringing the weekend before and raising nearly $1,000.

Dick Kallenburg gave a Paul Harris award to Jeff Peat. Joel Duthie gave the Foundation Minute.

The Sergeant was Peter Norton. Monies collected by Matt and all Sergeants are donated to multiple local charities at the end of the year, including Salvation Army and Wellfield Botanic Gardens.

If that wasn’t enough to pack into an hour long meeting, the Speaker was Elkhart Truth writer/editor, Marshall King discussing his picks for Regional Hidden Dining Gems. He said there are many good restaurants, but Marshall brought a list that people likely had not been to, but should visit:

1.Lucky’s Donuts, Elkhart—good donuts, but even better South Korean food by its owners.

2.Ricky’s Taqueria, Elkhart—best authentic Mexican; Mod Mex—Elkhart—best modern Mexican.

3.Maple Indian Cuisine, Goshen—actual Indian food nearby.

4.Noa Noa Wood Grill & Sushi Bar, Warsaw—great fresh seafood & sushi.

5.Venturi Pizza, Goshen—actual, artisan pizza.

6.Rachel’s Bread, Goshen—best local, fresh bread.

7.Food Dance, Kalamazoo—also near Bell’s Brewery

8.Dominic & Sarita Cataldo’s House—best smorgasbord, provided you can get invited.

9.JW Chen’s Asian Cuisine, South Bend—Marshall’s favorite Asian food. He was sorry they moved from Elkhart.

10.Artisan, Elkhart—Marshall gave kudos to Kurt Janowsky’s newest restaurant opening soon.

11.Shout out to 4 fabulous butcher shops: Martin’s Butchering, Wakarusa; Old Hoosier Meats, Middlebury; Local, New Buffalo; Yoder’s Meat & Cheese, Shipshewana.

He loves his job at The Elkhart Truth, especially now that he’s joined by other food writers at The Elkhart Truth’s special food section website: http://www.flavor574.com/
