Dan Spalding, from the Elkhart Truth Newspaper, spoke about some of the differences between Goshen politics and Elkhart politics.
 

Terri Rickel stood in for Club President Doug Risser and President Elect Ellen Janowsky. The club welcomed visitors Doug Grant from the Wawasee club and Pat Bridges from the South Bend club. 

Dick Kallenberg awarded Paul Harris Plus One pins to Sherm Hanson and Bob Shultz.  Ken Pletcher was awarded a Paul Harris Plus Two pin and Jim Brotherson was awarded a Paul Harris Plus Three pin. 

The Sergeant at Arms was the omnipotent and Honorable Stan Cohen. Sgt. Cohen quizzed members over trivia facts about the 4th of July. Among the facts he shared are the following:  There were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.  Benjamin Franklin was the oldest signer. Three US Presidents died on the 4th of July: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and James Monroe. The Sergeant’s committee raises over $ 18,000.00 a year in “fines.”  Those funds are then donated for the support of local charities. 

The featured speaker was Elkhart Truth reporter Dan Spalding, who spoke about some of the differences between Goshen politics and Elkhart politics. Before coming to The Elkhart Truth, Mr. Spalding has worked in Warsaw, South Bend and Goshen.
