Club President, Scott Puckett, rang the bell calling to order the September 12, 2016 meeting of the Elkhart Rotary Club.
 
Sherm Hansen opened and led in the pledge and four way test.
 
Today’s Greeters: Linda Rupnow, Connie Caiceros and Ann McCuistion.
Attending guests were Dorothy Shirk. Moe Jacobson was a visiting Rotarian from California.

Taste of the Gardens had a good turnout, good Corporate Sponsors, video of the garden and brief presentation at next week’s meeting.
 
Sherm mentioned that the partnership with Horizon Educational Alliance (HEA) and Economic Development went very well.  25 companies met with 550-600 8th grade students.  Each student had 2 companies they researched and then wen to their location to learn more about manufacturing.
 
Monthly Board meeting this Friday, October 14th at 7:00 a.m. at Perkins.
 
Thirsty Thursday is at the Artisan October 20th at 5:30.

Scott Puckett introduced Pete McCown from Elkhart Community Foundation, Pete has been President/CEO with Elkhart Community Foundation for 5 years, has been married for 25 years and has 5 children.
 
Pete’s topic was on The Elkhart Health Fitness Aquatic Center that is going to be located where the YMCA was located on East Jackson Blvd.  Beacon, City of Elkhart, Elkhart Community Foundation, Elkhart Community Schools and the philanthropic community have all partnered together to make this $55 million project come to light.
 
The location will have three components:
 
1. Beacon – physical therapy, bariatric clinic, employer clinic, and a fitness and health center.
2. Aquatic - Elkhart Schools replacement pools for both high school versus repaid two existing.
3. Middle facility will be a community center, café, art room and gymnasiums.
