MISSION STATEMENT
In a safe and nurturing environment, A Rosie Place for Children provides a haven for children who are medically fragile while providing family members periods of relief from the demands of providing twenty-four hour care.
ABOUT US
A Rosie Place for Children serves all 92 counties in the state of Indiana by providing respite care. (Children residing outside of Indiana will be considered on a case by case basis.) A Rosie Place for Children is situated on five beautiful acres in South Bend, Indiana. Accommodations include six unique kid-friendly bedrooms the children like to call their own. Our home is warm, spacious and colorful featuring nature-inspired themes. The saltwater aquarium, colorful murals, outdoor pond and waterfall are just some of the fun features the children love.
Families choose our respite care service for a variety of reasons. Our staff understands the importance of continuity in each child’s care, and respects the role of the caregiver at home. An in-depth assessment is provided by one of our registered nurses to ensure quality care and comfort.
There is no missing the fact that A Rosie Place is unique and special; we simply think outside the box when it comes to caring for our children and their families. Six distinct bedrooms each providing a unique nature-inspired environment. Children can stay in Desert Dreams, Sunny Meadow, Jungle Playground, Moonscape Mountain, The Harbor, or Barefoot Beach. Guests can use one of three bathrooms which are especially equipped for a variety of abilities/needs. Children and staff gather in the common rooms: Grand Park (our living room) and Nibbling Nook (the kitchen, of course!). We eat together and play together!
LICENSED SPECIALTY HOSPITAL
A Rosie Place for Children is the first (and only) specialty hospital in the state of Indiana exclusively for children who are medically fragile. Although we are a highly equipped hospital, capable of caring for the most complex pediatric conditions, we like to emphasize our home-away-from-home environment.

WHAT IS MEDICALLY FRAGILE?
A child who is medically fragile requires daily care by specially trained caregivers (above and beyond typical parenting). Children who are medically fragile require the use of therapies and/or specialized high tech medical equipment (such as G-Tubes, ventilators, apnea monitors, suction machines) to sustain or enhance their lives. Conditions that may constitute medically fragile include (but are not limited to): premature birth, brain injury, uncontrolled seizure disorder, cancer, spina bifida, complications from surgeries, chronic lung or heart disease, swallowing disorders or specialized feeding issues, neuromuscular disease, or other chronic health conditions such as diabetes and asthma that require specialized care that cannot be provided by an untrained care giver.
SLEEPOVERS
Children who visit A Rosie Place "come home" to a very special setting where they are always warmly welcomed. Our goal is to become part of the extended family of those we serve. When a child stays here, they are with "family". Our children's caregivers can be confident in the care and nurturing their child will experience here. Children are encouraged to bring their special things with them - a favorite toy, a movie, music, anything that would make this home like their home.
NATURE INSPIRED HOSPITAL
Murals enhance a growing number of spaces at A Rosie Place, each one provided by the generosity of sponsors/donors (Thank you donors, Sweet Pea Foundation, Bill & Mary Jane Stanley and artist, Annie Monger of Wallscapes Painting!). Currently guests can experience an underwater sea and a tropical beach. Upcoming projects include a moonscape and a forest path.
