About The Collection

Born from an eye for design and reverence for history, Jack Boyd Smith Jr. dove into the classic car world headfirst and has not looked back. Just over six years ago, Jack made up his mind that he was going to purchase his first classic car. As the story goes, and in true Jack fashion, the bug bit him (or perhaps he bit the bug), and he purchased eight beautiful classic cars in one day.

From there, The Collection began.

During the next 18 months, Jack began to hone his discernment for finding the truly rare and unique cars that comprise The Collection today. This inevitably led to a fateful call to Vivian and Eric LaVine of LaVine Restorations with the goal of reviving these rolling pieces of art and learning more about the world of classic car shows.

Alongside Vivian and Eric, Jack attended his first Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2013. Of course, for Jack, merely attending was not enough. While visiting one of the many wonderful auctions in Monterey, Jack spotted his first full restoration and, ultimately, Pebble Beach entrant. With the advisement of Vivian and Eric, Jack purchased a 1933 Packard Twelve Coupe – one of only five produced, and of two known to exist – and the rest, they say, is history.

In short order, this 1933 Packard found its way onto the show field of the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance replete with a full LaVine Restorations rejuvenation. In his first outing, Jack secured a Second-in-Class award behind a custom Chrysler Town Car built specifically for Walter P. Chrysler’s wife.  Excited, but hungry for more, Jack left a very successful first outing at the ever-challenging Concours on the water with a singular goal – Best-in-Class.

In 2015, Jack accomplished this goal with a stunning and rare 1934 Packard Twelve Convertible Victoria with custom interior by Dietrich, again wearing a fresh restoration by LaVine Restorations. With a Best-in-Class award in hand, Jack was eager for the next. Thus began a love story that continues on to this day.

Over the past six years, Jack has won several Best-in-Class awards at Pebble Beach, along with numerous Best-in-Class and class awards at some of the most respected and revered Concours and shows in the country, and world.

More importantly, during this time, Jack has used these cars as a tool to teach his children about our automotive and, truly, world history. He has shared his passion with his lovely wife Laura. He has educated countless individuals and groups on the merits and importance of these pieces of art. He has donated selflessly to causes and shows supporting the hobby. And he has advanced the cause for preserving, promoting, and protecting these truly invaluable vessels of art, design, engineering, history, luxury, passion, struggle, perseverance, joy, and heritage.

So please, come enjoy these cars. Learn about them. Appreciate them. Respect them. And, above all, keep them alive for decades to come!

Welcome to The Collection.
