Considerations when transitioning from wearing a hearing aid to a cochlear implant

Chelsea Twyman, Au.D. Audiologist with the Beacon Medical Group discusses the transition/considerations from wearing a hearing aid to a cochlear implant during Audiology Awareness Month.

Meet Dr. Chelsea Twyman:
As an audiologist, Dr. Twyman performs diagnostic hearing tests for adults and children. If the hearing loss can’t be treated with surgery, she helps improve it with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Her goal is to help her patients have a better understanding of how an audiologist can help restore relationships between them and their loved ones. “I want them to know that I may not be able to fix everything, but I’m always on their side – and I’m always willing to try.”

Dr. Twyman received her Bachelor of Science degree in speech language pathology and audiology from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She received her doctorate of audiology from the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium comprised of Kent State University, the University of Akron and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

She is passionate about helping children with hearing loss hear better and learn to advocate for their listening needs. She founded the group HICOM (Hearing Impaired Children of Michiana) in 2019 to help children with hearing loss connect with like peers.
