A broken water main caused the November 12th meeting of the Elkhart Rotary club to be moved from the Matterhorn to the Lerner’s Crystal Ballroom.

Elkhart Rotary in Partnership with the Matter Horn Conference Center will once again serve over 2000 meals on Thanksgiving Day to needy families in our community.  If you would like to “sponsor” a turkey simply drop off or send a check for $ 25.00 made out to the Matterhorn.

The Sergeant at Arms was the distinguished Doug Thorne, Esquire. Doug recognized all members who served in the armed forces.  He then fined all the bankers for taking the day off.  Doug noticed that each week when the Norte Dame fans are asked to stand the number of those standing is growing.  Doug fined James Brotherson for working for the world’s number one law firm.

The Sergeant’s committee raises over $ 18,000.00 a year in “fines” those funds are then donated to local charities.

The Speaker was: Dr. Robert Tomec of the South Bend Medical Foundation.  Founded in 1912 the SBMF is celebrating 100 years in business.  800 employees serve 50 plus hospitals. They perform five million medical tests per year and draw blood from 5,000 patients per day.  100 million dollars a year in revenue allows the SBMF to also operate a blood bank and prepare for biological incidents.
