Today we welcomed Horizon Education Alliance's Leah Plank, Senior Director of Parent and Family Systems and Director of Triple P Elkhart County.
Leah presented "Triple P -- Positive Parenting Program of Elkhart County" Triple P is a population-level, public health approach to parenting support that has been proven to reduce rates of child abuse and neglect and improve children’s mental and behavioral health. Triple P is designed for “every parent” with multiple levels of support available in locations across the community. Triple P was launched in Elkhart County in 2015 and has provided thousands of Elkhart County parents with evidence-based parenting support.

Today we inducted a NEW MEMBER, Shelly Rubo! Shelly is the Executive Director of Women of Valor in Training. WOVIT is a Christian non-profit organization that believes everyone in society deserves a chance to succeed in life. Women between the ages of 18 and 30 are some of the most neglected individuals in our population when it comes to receiving help. Often times, circumstances beyond their control prevent them from becoming self-sufficient, productive members of the community. They find themselves moving from one house to the next, developing unhealthy relationships with men for survival purposes, or resorting to illegal activities so they can provide for themselves and their family. Regardless of whether it is based on bad choices, a lack of family support, or numerous other factors, WOVIT strives to empower these young women by providing support in all areas of life. Shelly was an RN for over 20 years, she has always had the desire to serve others. She worked for  Goshen Health in ICU for 15 of those years. Over the past 5 years  she has mentored young women who are struggling with life skills  Feeling that many were not progressing because they were living  in unsafe environments, she, with her husband Mike, founded  WOVIT. Shelly is becoming a certified Trauma coach to further help these young women. Shelly has 2 grown children and lives in Goshen with her husband, Mike.
