On Monday, October 14, the Elkhart Rotary Club met offsite at Summit, Five Star Life's 350-Acre Innovative learning campus. The club members in attendance enjoyed box lunches and a presentation from Aubrey Danielson, Five Star Life's Executive Director, followed by a guided tour of the garden area by Five Star Life volunteer—and fellow Elkhart Rotarian—Dr. Larry Knight.
Since 2005, Five Star Life has been successfully transforming the lives of children nationwide. With their character, leadership, and mindset Video Curriculum as the driving force of all programming, they serve thousands of kids annually. They help produce significant academic achievements, with up to 80% of entire school populations improving their GPA or maintaining a 3.0 or higher. They have also collaborated with schools to reduce discipline referrals by up to 70%. Research confirms that participating in Five Star Life leads to improved academics, increased school attendance and reduced behavioral issues. Five Star Life attacks the core issues kids are facing by teaching them how to create a winning mindset by instilling courage, respect, responsibility, integrity, and sacrifice into every fiber of their beings. This approach, which combines mindset development, values-based foundations, and mentorship, has proven to be transformational for kids. At Summit, Five Star Life integrates the soft skills kids develop through character, mindset, and leadership curriculum with a variety of specific hard skills (equine, archery, nature education, adventure, art, etc). Summit provides the perfect on-ramp for kids to pursue and develop these hard skills, an introduction to a new world of possibilities, while also focusing on mindset development.
Larry shared the new project, a dry stream bed and drainage, supported by the Elkhart Rotary Club and district 6540 grants.
